Cheeky Monkey Brewery, Margaret River

Western Australia Day long weekend a group of us ventured down to the South West winery and food region along with what felt like a portion of Perth’s population. Despite the queues for coffee and fully booked restaurant signs the atmosphere in these normally quiet towns was lively and festive. A long weekend down south is not to be missed as a majority of the local wineries put on special event evenings. In the region there are some great breweries such as Bootleg Brewery, Duckstein Brewery, Bush Shack Brewery and Eagle Bay Brewing Company.

After a full on morning of winery stops our group was keen to give Cheeky Monkey Brewery & Cidery a go for lunch.

In standard pub style there is no table service, find a table and order food at the counter and drinks at the bar to the left. We were lucky to have secured a table in the far corner and when we vacated after our meal we had two people throw themselves upon it. Mental note for next time, reserve a table!

Cheeky Monkey Brewery & Cidery offers a family friendly environment with a playground and ample outdoor space for the kids or ‘kids at heart’ to run amuk. There is also a kids lunch menu. The modern Brewery has a wonderful spacious grassed area of tables with beautiful views across the property’s small dam.

Generally, breweries do not offer free tastings however the tasting plate is a great way to sample the varieties of brews and you receive more than a free tasting as well. The tasting plate was a combination of beers and ciders.

Tasting plate $15.00.

The mushroom pizza was delicious, the base thin and topped with loads of pungent Parmesan cheese and juicy mushrooms. Rocket was layered on top of the pizza. A value for money dish I was completely satisfied with this.

Mushroom and garlic pizza $20.00

As a local Perth resident you become involuntarily accustomed to paying inflated prices for food and drinks and well almost everything like Adobe Software! There is a fine line with being satisfied through quality and quantity versus price. Most of the group ordered burgers for $20.00 each. A few of us did not realise it excluded salad and chips. Feeling this was overpriced the group was disappointed with the dish. A side of chips was $8.00, making the cost to complete the meal $28.00!

Burger $20.00

On the menu there were several light eating options and the falafels served with hummus, tabbouleh and fresh pita bread was one of them. A great meal with the tasting plate.

Falafels with hummus, tabbouleh and fresh pita bread $12.00

  • […] A modern boutique brewery, cidery and restaurant with a large open grassed area for groups and families. Next door to the brewery is Killerby wines. Beautiful grassed grounds with picnic tables can be found to the rear of the property. We had lunch at Cheeky Monkey and you can read more about the experience here. […]
