Sonnys – Revisited

Sonnys – Revisited

Sonnys is another fantastic Subiaco cafe but unlike the others along Rokeby Road this one has an old school Italian charm. The City of Subiaco does a historical connection to Italy when in 1851 a group of benedictine monks settled in the area and established their monastery called New Subiaco, named after their home town. So it feels rather fitting to stop by Sonnys.

The decor is modern and sleek with the use of black colours in contrast with a large sparkling chandelier and pictures of Italy adorn the walls from floor to ceiling. The large glass cabinet displays a collection of cakes.

The coffees were served promptly and the the cappuccino reminded me of the coffee I had consumed in Europe, the froth of the cappuccino was lumpy and not the typical smooth froth that Perth Baristas serve up these days, sometimes it is good to not have perfection around.

Interestingly enough  Dean Gallagher of Five Sense Coffee recently did an article on the changes of coffee and wrote ‘People standing behind the espresso machine used to measure the quality of their cappuccino by the size of their foam peak’. I am pleased to say at Sonnys  you will get that big  peak of froth on your coffee!
