The Blue Duck
The Blue Duck Restaurant has been around for years and is a much loved place to the locals of Perth. The modern Australian restaurant is located on the sand dunes overlooking Cottesloe Beach in Perth’s western suburbs and serves early morning coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main attraction of The Blue Duck is the fabulous view, there are only a handful of restaurants in Perth that provide uninterrupted views of W.A’s pristine beach and summer evening sunsets.
It took us a while to get going this morning and luckily for us the breakfast kitchen is open daily until 11:30 am. The Blue Duck is quite a large restaurant and the best tables are on the balcony area, there are also a few lounges outside and in the entrance which looked perfect for a quick takeaway coffee or drink.
The breakfast menu offers many choices including ‘add on’ options to a few of the meals. The restaurant is fully licensed and you can also order a sneaky glass of Champagne, Bloody Mary or Espresso Martini cocktails with breakfast, we passed on this opting for the regular coffees instead.
Cappuccino ($4.00)
The Blue Duck use Fiori Coffee and have a trained barista behind the coffee machine. Fiori Coffee is a West Australian company and it is always good to see the cafes supporting local products!
As we waited for our meals we watched a few regular swimmers go about their morning swim a few metres from the shoreline.

The french toasted brioche was surely a sight to admire as the lady placed our dishes on the table. The dish consisted of one and a half slices of a buttery French Brioche, poached pears, deeply coloured berries, a drizzling of honey, sweet Mascarpone cheese and cinnamon sugar.
Brioche is a sweet yeast dough that is best served either on it’s own or with some jam, it is crumby in texture and an ideal choice for French Toast. The berry compote perfectly complimented the brioche and I think the Mascarpone cheese was a good choice as cream would have spoiled the dish.

The mashed sweet potatoes was the star ingredient of this vegetarian sweet potato, feta & herb hash dish. The sweet potatoes were nicely mashed with feta, garlic and herbs and surprisingly being a big bread eater DD did not miss his toast at all. The menu does give you a choice to add bacon, pancetta or salmon and DD ordered an addition of bacon.

Living in Perth during the summer months there is one thing you learn about pretty quickly and that is the sea breeze, it is a god send especially when the temperatures have been hovering around the 4o degree mark over the past 4 days. This morning the breeze was in early and the ocean was a little ‘choppy’ (Aussie slang for there were waves).
